Current Events Quiz 1.1

1. What is the proposed police budget for 2015-16 before the city council this week?
$394 million.

2. WHY is the Travis county jail working with a training school to help inmates remove their tattoos?
The county jail wants to give people with tattoos the "confidence to go out and give their life a fresh start". They feel like the tattoos from the inmates' pasts prevent potential employers from seeing the good in these changed people.

3. What is the proposed price for a parking pass at ACL festival next year?
$100 proposed price.

4. How much less money will AISD have to spend next year because of state required "sharing" requirements?
About $2 million less.

5. Who is the Texas Longhorn football teams' opponent this weekend?
They will play the Notre Dame football team.

6. I think that the issue involving the Kentucky clerk denying same-sex marriage licenses is unbelievable. The clerk may not support the idea of gay marriage, but it isn't her decision to determine who can get married. The government approved same-sex marriage, and that applies to everyone in the United States of America. For this woman to deny a couple their license is being selfish in her part. The clerk doesn't have to like the new approval, but that doesn't give her the right to change who can get married. If the clerk continues to refuse giving out licenses to gay couples, she should be fired or put in a new position where she doesn't have the ability to give licenses.
Like this woman, counties and states shouldn't be given the right to go against the law made by the federal government. This approval was made for a reason, with many reasons to do so. If states, people, and counties have the ability to change this decision without consequence, the country would most likely erupt in chaos, and the problem wouldn't be settled.
